In this gorgeously animated drama, the lives of several strong-willed women and a young musician intersect. Their stories reveal the hypocrisies of modern Iranian society, where sex, drugs, and corruption coexist with strict religious law. In the bustling metropolis of Tehran, avoiding prohibitions has become an everyday sport and breaking taboos can be a means of personal emancipation. Nevertheless, women invariably end up on the bottom rung of the social order. A young woman needs an operation to "restore" her virginity. A judge in the Islamic Revolutionary Court exhorts favors from a prostitute in exchange for a favorable ruling. The wife of an imprisoned drug addict is denied the divorce she needs in order to live independently. Making use of rotoscope animation, expat Iranian filmmaker Ali Soozandeh creates a portrait of contemporary Tehran that would be impossible by any other means.

The story is told by Tawanda Tawanda (Irene Carras) from the point of view of a child, written by her own hand. The book was written by one Tawanda with pen and ink, but you would think that an adult would know better. As it is, children's movies are not for everybody. Even people who are not really kids still find children's movies boring. This one is not. There is no obvious plot, but what is there is done well and as simple as possible. I don't know the writer, but she tried to use a lot of familiar African folktales in the story, mostly about birds and trees, but mostly to show the child character's feeling about these things. In some cases, her writing and the stories she tells about them are very good and moving, but that's a small part of this movie. The art direction is excellent. The landscapes and colors are colorful and beautiful, as are the people depicted in the story. At no point are they boring, there are many people who live in the same village, and we are shown their world and their situation. I especially like how these people play the instruments and sing in the village, while most of the people in the movie live in a village with no music at all. This movie is about finding the people of your life, and in the end it is not about finding the correct person, but about discovering what you really want to be. It's a movie for people who know kids and are not kids. I recommend it to everyone who wants to see a good children's movie, but it is not for everyone.

A rich and witty satirical movie with equal amounts of comedy and sadness. It shows the contradictions in Egyptian society. The story goes about the son of a female cop who gets pregnant and the boy tries to avoid being put in jail. The story is told in a witty way, there is not much of emotion to be had here. It is a story of overcoming one's own limitations and the more one tries to overcome them, the harder it gets. The theme of humor is extremely well done, especially in the moments when the hero puts himself in difficult situations. The only real flaw is in the character of the son, he comes across as a little bit annoying and it is a shame. But it does not ruin the movie. The ending is very touching, showing a message of love and kindness. My rating: 7

I think this movie has the potential of being one of the greats of animation, but the other things they did (cameras, handheld, film import) this was clearly a low budget movie with potential. I still think there is a lot of potential for movies like this, but unfortunately most of the money they used was not used properly, because it was all ruined in the end. The first 2 minutes I don't really see the movie (still have it at the time of writing) and when I get a chance to watch it again it seems to suck. The pacing of the movie is terrible, all action is at the end which doesn't fit the film. They did a poor job with the editing, the cinematography is horrible (some sequences are just not good) and the animation is average at best (the computer animation is pretty bad). The story has some good ideas but also some bad ones. The good idea is that this movie doesn't try to sell its story, the bad idea is that they threw all the good ideas away and that the whole movie is just the setup of the ending. Most of the animation is average, the music is good (I can't really say I like the songs), and the sound effects are average (the loud noises aren't bad but they don't do anything). Overall, this movie is still not that good and it definitely has potential but they should have used the money better. It's not even a big budget movie, but I still think it could be a great one. 6.5/10

OK, it's a bit about Kedarnath, but its a real epic tale with its own emotional dimension. Everything is perfect, at the music and some of the scenes are stunning. The director has a real artistic touch. And no wonder. As a former cinema student of my school, I can tell you that many people were talking about this film after it came out in 2007. It was definitely one of the most talked about films of that year. Then the film was well received in the United States. And they made a big success. One of the reasons is because of the positive reviews. The film is successful because of its truthful story, it's a person on the road who's traveling and all, you don't know his or her name and you don't care. This is a story that everyone can relate to. All the elements that you can find in any epic film are here, but you can't fail to be impressed by the visuals, the attention to detail, the soundtrack and the acting. The depth of this film is definitely of its time. I think that if you have not seen this movie, it's better that you not only saw it, but I think that you will have a more emotional reaction when you watch this film. To tell you the truth, it's hard to believe that this was last year's Oscar. But it was a really good surprise.

This film's animation is pretty impressive. The character designs were very different from the original series. I thought the overall art style of this film was beautiful. The main character was a bit different and I liked the character design a little better. I really wanted to like the film but it just didn't have a memorable plot. There were some great songs which were sung by Nayan and the cg art was also pretty interesting. I still love this movie but I think I'll wait a bit and watch the TV series again. Its worth watching, but it wasn't anything I'd buy on DVD.

An interesting and provocative look at the media's dominance over people and society. Not an 'olden' stuff, nor more accessible or clear. But it should be appreciated as a reminder that the work of writers and filmmakers still get censored and tossed aside by other media. In the case of Tabu, it seems that the media and governments never truly accepted the idea of a film being free and equal. The subject is not new (back in 1997, a British film was banned because it was 'disrespectful' to the Palestinians), and the idea of showing people in their own language is still a bit shaky, but Tabu makes a very strong statement and is worth a look.

With this being a 2001 film, it's safe to say it's a late 90s and early 2000s project, so it's not exactly a masterpiece, but it does do the movie proud. Here's the thing about this film, it doesn't say much about anything or actually do anything unique. The characters are fairly bland and sometimes predictable, even the supporting cast members are forgettable. As well, the story itself is not all that original, but it does manage to offer something new and unexpected. I also have to add that I actually enjoyed this film, and I would love to see it again on DVD in the future. I liked how the film managed to stay relevant with today's culture, and also that the message was delivered in a realistic manner. Overall, I think this is a film that will appeal to most. 7/10

When I first saw the trailer for this film, I had very high expectations for it. It looked great, it looked great, it looked great. Boy, was I wrong. This movie is really difficult to watch. Some people say it's a masterpiece, but I prefer to call it a tragedy. It really has to do with the main character's life. The fact that he cannot find out who he is because of his father's death is a big fault. Otherwise, it's great. The color palette is great, the performances are great. And a huge part of the story is told through this little girl's perspective. I also would say that it's the first movie that really had a message for people. While some other movies just said, "This is a movie about a girl who didn't know who she was and she's going to find out and then it's over". This movie told me, "This is a movie about a girl who didn't know who she was and she's going to find out and then it's over". It's really a tragedy. People should see it as a tragedy, and not as a masterpiece. It's not going to be the greatest film ever, but it's definitely a great movie. So, people who have seen it, I recommend you to read my review of the film. If you don't, I still hope that you'll see it, cause it's great. It's really, really good. I'll give it a 6/10.

A powerful and at times difficult movie. Aeishah (Mandela) is an aspiring writer of a novel. She is poor and knows little about money matters. But she can get a week for a job well done. The deadline is five days before the release of her novel, and for the last month or so she has been writing while waiting. She loses the money and will have to go on the streets to get it. The women of the city won't pay for the article she writes, but she still wants to publish. She is tormented by the woman she is writing about, who refuses to believe her. During this time she meets Hassan (Talatoda), a well connected and ambitious politician. The story is so compelling that we don't realize what she is feeling until we are compelled to. It's not meant to be an action movie, but an insightful examination of what a woman must do when she's desperate and the woman she is writing about does not believe her. Aiad's role as a journalist in Amjad's life is minimal, but an important one. A noble act of kindness. After reading this novel I felt compelled to get the book in bookstores. It's a great film.

Although this movie is meant to be educational and enjoyable, I feel it should have been a little longer and more detailed. The story is about a boy who goes missing when he is 13 years old, but is found in 1971 in Panama and brought to Israel, where he becomes a research scientist. His life becomes more complex after he begins to meet other scientists who work on a project involving extraterrestrial life, and also in the course of that, there is a child's life and a laboratory accident. I am not saying that this is bad, it is still entertaining and educational, as well as touching. The special effects are good, and the director has used a very realistic perspective to make it look like the movie is real. I also liked the music score that is usually very dramatic, but when it's peaceful, it's very enjoyable. I also enjoyed the fact that it was about life and life in general, and not just about aliens. I think it would have been more interesting if the movie had been about either aliens or about the life in general. The beginning is very interesting, but not very long, and the ending is very slow. This movie is not for everybody, and for some people, they will not like it at all, because it will leave you feeling sad or disappointed. I think it is good for young kids, because it teaches them about what they can and cannot do, and it shows what life is really like. I also think it is good for people who are not interested in science fiction or aliens. As long as you are over the age of 15 or younger, you will probably like it.

I agree with most of the reviews here. If you are looking for an artsy movie, then this isn't it. But if you want a movie with an intellectual, well developed plot, then you will probably like this. The movie is smart and well structured, but doesn't provide any action. I had the feeling that I was watching a documentary on the Holocaust, but it was done better than in "Born into Brothels" or "Schindler's List". As mentioned by another poster, the movie tells a fictionalized account of the story of the Jewish children who died in the Holocaust. This story is told through some of the characters, who are Jewish and suffered the same fate. If you are interested in Jewish history and/or stories of the Holocaust, this might be for you.

One of my favorite films. Loving the stories, the costumes and the overall set, it was interesting and touching to see a film where the main characters were two kids, one was too young to talk and the other to be related to. In another film I've seen, a young girl couldn't talk in any sense, this film brought back those feelings of how little children always want to talk, and it's important to listen to what they have to say. All in all, a charming film. Recommended. A full seven out of ten.

It is not easy to watch movies and get caught up in the plot of the movie. And if you are like me, it would be very difficult to do that. The movie opens with a person running from his family in Africa. The movie is in a tribe but you have no idea about their background. You hear many stories about these people. You wonder what it is they are doing. And what are they doing. I was not ready to understand the complex plot of the movie. However, I have to say I liked this movie. If you are able to stay awake and do not want to fall asleep during the movie, I would say you should watch this. The main actor is amazing. He is good looking, and he has a great voice. It is his voice that makes this movie very enjoyable. I hope to see him in the next movie he is in. It is about love, and fighting for love. For those who do not like the movies I have described above, do not worry. You will not be disappointed.

This film is a remake of the 1978 film of the same name. What works and what doesn't in this remake is how the story is told. Everything about this film is executed just right. The beautiful blue colors, the cinematography, the script, the performances, everything is very attractive to watch. The problem comes from the story itself. It's a story about growing up in a rural environment, and how kids from a disadvantaged background try to live in the city. But, this is what separates this film from many others of this genre. This film has a dark tone to it, which makes it a bit more interesting than others. There is a lot of characters who are unknown to the viewer, and their backstory comes into play later. I think a lot of the same problems could be shown in this film, especially if this film is viewed as a remake of a much older film. The biggest problems I had with this film are that it's too long, and the characters don't have enough screen time. Also, one of the supporting characters didn't make sense at all. The movie is divided into five parts. I liked the beginning and the end of the first part, but the middle was quite boring and there were too many characters that weren't clear to care about. However, the second and third parts are very interesting and the final part is extremely interesting. Overall, I would recommend this film to anyone who is interested in American cinema, but I would also recommend it to someone who likes the similar genre, such as Lord of the Rings or The Chronicles of Narnia.

Babak Nezer (Gholam-Ali Krijani) is a man living in a high-rise building in Tehran. His apartment is only 500 square feet and the phone lines are broken. The only people who can talk to him are his daughter, a reporter named Asyraf (Ali Abunimah), and a man named Norim (Mohsen Ravanei). All three of them try to contact Babak, but he refuses to talk to anyone. Suddenly, Babak's life changes. He meets his neighbor, Mojtabi (Marjane Satrapi), a typical young woman with a great carefree personality. Mojtabi has a very dry sense of humor, and she thinks that Babak is very nice and wonderful. Then, while traveling in a taxi, Babak comes across a young man named Kili (Ali Shohrab). The two of them become fast friends, and Kili takes a liking to Babak's daughter, Meraj (Jahanbakhar Emam) and tries to help him. Istanbul is a rich, artistic city. I have visited it several times. During the time of the revolutions, the city was mostly destroyed. People were living in shelters or on the streets. The most important one was the Bosphorus Bridge. The bridge is an architectural masterpiece. In the film, the old bridges are replaced by new ones. The city is beautiful. It's a wonderful city and it's a good movie to see. There are many places in the film that will remind you of the city. The film was not made for adults. The last part of the film involves the politics and the global warming. Although it was a film of good quality, it was rather boring. The movie has many positive points, but the biggest part of the film is about the old bridges that were destroyed. It's an excellent movie for people who don't have a lot of time to watch a great movie. It was shown in Tehran, Iran, on July 27, 2006.

This is a somewhat rare movie in my opinion, in that it is not a children's movie, but an adult movie, and some of its cinematography may offend some young kids who have a strong aversion to the whole dark side of the book. But you will still be able to enjoy it as an adult. The story takes place in the colonial era. It's an interesting idea, where the protagonist's personal life is so often affected by the war, and his interactions with others are so often one sided. Tensions between the characters are high, but they come out in the end as almost nothing. And while this movie has a strong message, it is based on a children's book, which has a strong message, but is more focused on action and suspense than any thought about the quality of the writing, or of what the characters were thinking. "An eye for an eye" is not the first movie to portray the conflict between good and evil. But this one manages to avoid such cliches, and relies more on the action, and on the feelings between characters, than it does on the well known story. Another word about the cinematography: this movie should have been shown in a different way, but it was properly done. It is dark, but not too dark. In a sense, I think it is not enough to emphasize that it is an adult movie. If the movie showed more of the children, and less of the adults, then it would have been as much a children's movie as the one in which it is adapted. But I think the movie could have been so much better, if the director had not been so close to the book. The film is not that strong, I think, in all aspects. You will find there are few funny moments, and there are quite a few dramatic ones, but overall, I found it a little too slow and with a few moments that may not appeal to a majority of viewers. I have seen some great movies in my life, and this is not among them. But there are some parts that will surely remind you of some famous children's movies.

What really amazes me about 'Tabu' is the fact that this is the first serious adaptation of a Mamma Mia! production. The most impressive thing about this film is the realism and realism of the pacing. Everything is so stylized and real, so you can see the fact that this is not just an animated film, but actually a graphic novel. You can tell that it's a very well done film, by the lush colors and everything. It reminds me of Alan Moore's 'Watchmen' for the story and the way they used music for different moods. Every scene and every story is both very expressive and very specific. Some of the music reminded me of Nine Inch Nails songs, and the way that the music has been chosen is very very unique. But that's the best thing about 'Tabu' is the way that it chooses the music and the way that it's arranged. It seems like the story is trying to break the flow of a typical animated film, but it really doesn't, and the result is that there are moments in the film that are so abrupt and clear, it's like the film is in a trance. And you know, the music that comes from the film is very disturbing and very surprising and the way that it is portrayed in the film is very interesting. And the entire film also is very different. I just love the way that the music is used in this film, and all the graphic novel scenes and the way that everything is presented on the screen are so unique. And the whole film is very interesting and different. It's a visually beautiful film, but I think that it's more of a visual poem than a film, because it's not animated. There are some dramatic scenes in the film, but this film is not a drama, not a drama in the sense that it's a love story. It's a poem. And the end is very important, because it's really a poetic ending for a film, because it means a lot to be able to tell the story in a poetic way, and to show the impact and impact that these guys have on their lives, and so, I really recommend this film. But it's not animated.

I read the synopsis and it is pretty good. I was surprised how the story actually unfolded and the cinematography is really impressive. As a translator who has been to Syria and Iraq and felt this sort of thing was common, I was very surprised to see how accurate the narration was. So for that reason, I was curious to see the film, because I had heard that it was actually quite a sobering story. I really loved how the story unfolded and how it was clearly based on a true event. One of the problems that the narration falls into is that it's not very reflective of how difficult it was to be in these situations, like how it wasn't easy to get a job, or what women's rights were. It seemed that they were based on people's subjective opinions instead of actual experience. This was not as deep as I had imagined it would be, but it was still a really good film.

This movie was fantastic. The characters are portrayed so well, the movie is also extremely touching, extremely realistic, extremely realistic, extremely real. It is one of the most emotionally rich movies I have ever seen. I have been surprised how much I can relate to every single character. Each character can make you feel love, empathy, sadness, fear, frustration, joy, anger, hopelessness, hope, and all that other emotional stuff. I would give this movie a 10. It is truly a 9.5/10.

A great quality movie by one of the best directors of the 21st century! Because the narrative and plot are almost equally designed to highlight the needs and love between a mother and her child (Rumi) and the father and his commitment to his family. It's a simple story, but very interesting. You can't expect any outstanding action or crazy special effects. It's more an artistic way to express love through the eyes of the mother and father. The movie is very "parable" because it shows that each one of us are different and it's in our hearts. That's why it's also an interesting art.

An okay movie that could have been better with a better script. Story was told in a way to make the audience happy that they are rooting for the main character who dies. If this movie was made with a stronger script, it could have been a great movie. I guess what I am trying to say is that this movie needed a script writer or a script editor who could write a stronger script. I don't know why this movie is in the top 250 list of IMDb but if you like sentimental stories then you should watch this movie.
